Which Amazon Echo is the best for you?

Starting a Smart Home can be daunting. Not only are there multiple different companies offering multiple different solutions. But once you have finally decided which one to go with. You find out that that company has multiple different devices. Let’s have a look at the Amazon Echo family and see which Amazon Echo is the best for you?

Echo Dot:

If you are looking to start a Smart Home, and don’t have a huge budget, then you simply can’t go wrong with the Echo Dot. The Alexa powered device will give you access to a host of features such as voice commands, routines, and skills.

It has a small but powerful 1.6″ speaker that sounds great. If you want to improve the sound further you can connect it to another speaker using Bluetooth or its 3.5mm Aux Out Port. This is Audio Out only, so you can’t plug in an MP3 player.

Normally the Dot costs £49.99. But is regularly discounted to £24.99 and very often bundled with Philips Bulbs, Firesticks, or Amazon Music that offer superb value.

The Echo has a much larger speaker compared to the Dot. Boasting a 3″ neodymium woofer and a 0.8″ tweeter it delivers room-filling sound.

Unlike the Dot, the Echo’s Aux port can send and receive audio. This allows it to be used as a speaker as well being connected to a more powerful speaker system. This is the only real difference between the two.

Normally Priced at £59.99. A great speaker, and for only £10 more than the Dot, it is hard to not take the upgrade. However, a discounted Dot for £24.99 is a much better option.

Echo Plus:

The Echo Plus is a lot more expensive at £139.99. But it comes with way more features that makes it a really great investment if you plan to expand.

The built-in Dolby 360 speakers deliver amazing sound. And the inbuilt Zigbee hub means you can easily connect directly to numerous other Zigbee devices such as thermostats, lights, and plugs.

Echo show 5 and 8:

The Echo Show devices add a screen that opens up lots of extra features such as video calls, viewing videos such as movies on Amazon prime. There is no Youtube. If you connect to a Doorbell camera you can see who is at the door.

I’ve mine placed in the kitchen where I can get handy recipes. Do make sure you can plug them in near where you are cooking as there is no option to charge and carry around the house.

Finally, our favourite feature is the ability to add a photo album and have it act as a living photo frame.

Prices start at £79.99 for the Echo Show 5, and £119.99 for the Echo Show 8. But again both regularly get discounted to £49.99/£59.99 respectively at this price they are great value.

Which Amazon Echo is the best? As you can tell there isn’t a huge difference between the sub £100 devices. If you are unsure where to start with Smart tech, and just want to dip your toes in, then the Echo Dot on sale for £24.99 is the best. You get the power of Alexa and a great little speaker.

If you plan to build out a fully integrated Smart Home, then I would go with the Echo Plus. Even at £139.99 the inbuilt Zigbee hub and thermostats means you can add multiple other devices directly without needing any extra hubs.
